MSU Denver Leadership Programs

Congratulations to our 2020 Student Involvement & Leadership Award Nominees. These awards celebrate people who contributed to the MSU Denver campus community through Student Organizations, Fraternity & Sorority Life, Intercollegiate Athletics, Student Employment, and Overall Leadership each year and we are pleased to see so many reasons to celebrate this year.

We will recognize over 30 recipients for their work this year when final decisions are made. The committee is reviewing the nomination materials and looks forward to announcing our winners in safe and fun ways over the next month throughout the virtual university experiences. Recipients will still receive physical awards, but we are also looking at ways to share the good news in multiple virtual venues. Make sure to check your University email and this website for updates and announcements. You will also find updates on our page throughout May and June.

Join us for the TEDxMSU Denver Watch Party tomorrow

Roadrunners have busy lives. Between school and work, it’s hard to find time for almost anything extra. So, committing a full day to attend TEDx MSU Denver might not have been realistic.

Here’s the good news: Student Activities is organizing a TEDx MSU Denver viewing party on Thursday, Sept. 12. Stop by the Tivoli Multicultural Lounge any time between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day to grab some food and check out a livestream of the event.

Stay for five minutes or five hours. For one TED talk or 10. That’s up to you. But every Roadrunner should feel like they can be a part of this exciting on-campus event.

They’ll be 17 TED talks that day, most by faculty, students and alumni. They’ll be art performances, too. So, you can watch your professors, classmates and friends take the stage, before you watch them again on YouTube.

On Campus Job with the LGBTQ Student Resource Center at Auraria
OFFICE AMBASSADOR for the LGBTQ SRC:

We are in need of someone who is available at least between 12-3pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

GENERAL JOB DUTIES:
• Assist the staff of the LGBTQ Student Resource Center at Auraria in providing support, educational services, and resources to the campus community regarding gender identity and sexual orientation issues.
• Provide direct service to students, faculty, staff, and community members such as: referrals, resources, welcoming, and general support to visitors and callers with knowledge of the center resources, campus resources, and Denver area resources
• Perform administrative tasks including completing daily office to-do lists filing paperwork, restocking tabling box supplies, checking and responding to office emails, buttoning, and stocking office resources and pamphlets
• Support LGBTQ campus events, with tasks including but not limited marketing, flyering, event coordination, set up, tear down, and guest support
• Keep social space, front desk, and library area organized and supplied with updated information and resources
• Participate in Auraria workshops and events, and attend regularly scheduled meetings

SPECIALTY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Management of office social space
• Marketing social and community building throughout campus
• Developing and implementing programs and uses of social space
• Coordinate and assist social meet up groups (i.e. QTPOC)
• Address social space by engaging guests in getting to know one another and engaging in group discussions
• Upholding office and social space norms and initiating new guests to the space
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Currently enrolled in at least 6 credits at CCD, MSU Denver, or CU Denver with a minimum 2.0 GPA
• Must possess strong communication skills and comfort in giving presentations and public speaking
• Experience working across different cultures as well as experience providing responsive services to a diverse community
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and understanding of social networking applications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Genuine value of the LGBTQ+ community and social justice
• Knowledgeable about Auraria campus and the resources available to students
• Excellent organizational and planning skills including the ability to independently prioritize work, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, set goals, and enforce deadlines, while maintaining the flexibility to reassess and prioritize goals
• Demonstrated ability to work well in a highly collaborate work environment
