On May 7th, the education platform Canvas was hacked by hacking group “Shinyhunters.”
As of now, the “Shinyhunters” have not released any new information or demands. Many
breached schools have put forth statements announcing the restoration of Canvas. Also,
informing students the platform is operating as usual for their finals but to look out for
phishing emails. The ransom note displayed on Canvas gave schools a deadline of May 12th
to negotiate a deal. Further details regarding the recovery of Canvas and the status of
student information have yet to be disclosed.
