Pneumatic Vacuum Elevators don't need cables, counterweights, or pistons. The vacuum elevators have tube-shaped cab and hoist in uses that use air pressure in a perfectly balanced system to move the cab up and down. It's an energy-efficient elevator.

In 1886, Seth Humphrey invented the Manlift, a compact wood elevator, with multiple open platforms just large enough to hold one person. Humphrey’s first customer was the Pillsbury facility in Minneapolis, which operated the largest mill in the world.
