📚 Books We Love
We’re continuing our series highlighting the favorite books of the people behind Burning Through Pages.
Next up is Heather Donald, one of BTP’s longtime supporters.
Heather’s favorite books are the Little House on the Prairie series.
“When I was in fourth grade, my school told me the books were above my reading level and wouldn’t let me check them out from the library. My mother bought them for me instead.
I was fascinated with 19th-century prairie life and often imagined I was Laura Ingalls. When Laura became a teacher simply by taking a test, I was so jealous! It seemed like such an idyllic life.
Although the series is now considered a problematic text, it still taught me about a different way of life in a time and place I could never possibly visit. Historical fiction is still one of my favorite genres.
To me, books connect us not only to other people, but to other places and times as well.
I support Burning Through Pages because I support its mission wholeheartedly, but it’s also a tribute to my brother Michael, who was good friends with Evin.”
📖 Heather’s advice to young readers:
“Read the one that catches your attention, challenges you just a little, or maybe the one you enjoy reading no matter what.”
What book has taken you somewhere you’ve never been? We’d love to hear your story in the comments.
Where should we spell next?! We’re looking for future venue partners for Spelling Bee(r), our adult spelling bee fundraiser that supports Burning Through Pages literacy programs.
