The Phoenix Affect

During the Hilton Humanitarian Prize today I got to see Leonardo DiCaprio! He’s been a long time supporter of climate change work. He stated to the Executive Director of Amazon Frontlines that he loved advocating for and saving the planet before he loved being an actor (that’s a close second.) I love when celebrities use their platforms to amplify powerful messages.

I had a moment to connect with Nemonte Nenquimo and Mitch Anderson (and their beautiful daughter.) The founders and executive directors of Amazon Frontlines. They spend their time fighting the most just cause of protecting their home from industrialism while simultaneously protecting us from a looming desertification of the Amazon rainforest. If the rainforest stops creating rain, the planet has a slim to none chance of surviving while humans are cohabitating it. I learned a lot today. I have been following their journey and it has been amazing to watch. They are the 2024 winners of the Hilton Humanitarian Prize ($2.5 Million) and they deserve $50 Million more. Their work can single handily enable the survival of the ecosphere.

The Amazon rainforests are the lungs of our planet… literally… the Amazon is full of hundreds of tribes and sacred groups who are still living as the original humans lived. They are one with the Earth, they do not beleive in damaging our planet because it is their home. You don’t destroy your home. It is that simple yet so complex to a society that has been taken over by a sect of humans who seemingly has a disconnect from the Earth. They only relish in profits.

✨Well we can’t eat money if the Earth isn’t producing fruit.
✨We can’t breathe money if the air is toxic.
✨We can’t drink money if the water is contaminated or poisoned with oil.

Climate catastrophe is the single most pressing issue today. Everything else is secondary. Literally everything.

They… and you know who they are… are attacking progressive prosecutors across the country… those who are making it hard for them to throw the book at young Black kids, while also amplifying the policing in our communities and divesting in our education. The gains we have made in the last ten years in particular are being attacked. They feel that we are getting too free, that we are gaining too much… they are trying to give this woman 40 years for taking money from her own retirement account (something countless people have done) to fund purchasing a home during the Pandemic. They couldn’t find real dirt so they are head hunting on what they can. Please sign this petition and share this. They need just a few more signatures.
