Bear Creek Lake Park reopened their swim beach after being closed for elevated e.coli bacteria levels. The swim lane is open for swimming if you don't want to travel all the way to Chatfield Gravel Pond (which requires you to be part of a permitted group). Shower off at home after swimming to remove any bacteria or if you don't like to smell of pond water on you. Enjoy your summer of swimming!

Big Soda Lake is closed to swimming due to high levels of Blue Green Algae that is potentially toxic to humans and pets, and Bear Creek Reservoir continues to have high levels as well. Wading and other water contact activities are not advised. At this time, personal paddle boards are allowed with zero water contact, and Rocky Mountain Paddleboard will remain open for rental, also with zero water contact allowed.
Due to this situation, and low water levels, we do not anticipate that Big Soda Lake will reopen to swimming this year.
Check back regularly for updates and more information at Lakewood.org/BCLP.

Excessive growth of the algae can occur during summer months, and certain varieties of blue-green algae can produce toxins that are linked to illness in humans and animals.
