I gave up chasing a perfectly spotless garden a long time ago. These days, I focus on keeping pests in check before they get out of hand. A quick look under the leaves, knocking beetles into soapy water, hand-picking squash bug eggs, or blasting aphids off with the hose usually keeps things under control. Most seasons, a few simple habits work better than reaching for stronger products. I've saved a lot more harvests by catching problems early than by trying to fight a full-blown infestation later.

We have the best volunteers! Many help us tend our gardens weekly. Their help is essential to us being able to grow so much food for our community. And some even take the additional time to deliver the harvests to various food pantries. Thank you, volunteers!
