Whether you’re heading to a family BBQ or a weekend getaway, Memorial Day parties and travel can be a lot to navigate. Our clinical team suggests three ways to prep for a smoother experience:

1️⃣ Practice the specific steps of your journey now (like a quick stop at a gas station for a favorite snack or a short practice drive) to help make the real trip feel like a known routine.
2️⃣ Use Social Stories: Create a brief story with simple pictures to explain who you will see and what will happen. This helps reduce the newness of the transition.
3️⃣ Maintain Anchors: Travel often means new daily routines, but keeping familiar safe snacks and consistent bedtimes can act as a regulatory anchor during a busy weekend.

Is your routine about to change?

For many families, the shift from the structured school year to the unscripted days of summer can be a challenging transition. It’s often during these shifts in routine that parents start looking for more clarity on their child’s development and support needs.

If you’ve been considering an autism evaluation, late spring is an ideal time to start the process. At Soar, we provide comprehensive diagnostic evaluations that go beyond just a label - we focus on providing a clear roadmap for your child's next steps, so you can head into the new season with a plan in place.

Data with a heart: What +60 skills actually looks like at home.

We track progress meticulously at Soar, but we know that for a parent, the most important metrics aren't on a chart - they’re in the daily moments of independence.

Across our centers, we see an average of 60 new skills gained every 6 months on the ESDM Curriculum Checklist. But what does that mean in real life?

It means a child moving from needing full help at mealtime to self-feeding with a spoon. It means the foundational steps of toileting independence, or a child learning to put on their own coat to go outside. These daily living skills are the building blocks of autonomy, and they are exactly what we’re measuring, teaching, and celebrating every single day.
