Water has a big impact on the price of beef year after year. When cattlemen have to sell their stock early for slaughter, they have to raise the price because the cows aren't as old as they normally would be. Even the cost of to feed cattle has risen due to the lack of water for hay grass.

The drought outlook indicates a lot of producers will be facing increased drought conditions going through the spring. Matt Makens discussed this during the CattleFax Outlook Session in San Antonio at CattleCon25.

A drier-than-average outlook covers most of the central U.S. Conversely, the is a chance for moisture conditions to improve in parts of the eastern half of the Corn Belt, parts of the West and areas of Montana. It will come down to the timing of moisture for many of us again this year.
