Thank you Bibamba Chocolate (Patrick and Mara) for hosting our first monthly MelonClub event.

Bibamba Chocolate is a farm to chocolate experience. In 2015, they started their own cacao farm in Cameroon, where co-founder Patrick is from. Their cacao then travels to Bibamba's kitchen/storefront in the Edgewater Public Market where the magic happens.

We had a great time touring the kitchen, learning how their chocolate is made, and trying samples.

A few fun facts we learned from Bibamba:

70% of the world's chocolate comes from cacao grown in Africa, yet most farmers don't earn a living wage.

87% of chocolate is produced under exploitative labor conditions, including slave and child labor.

1.56 million children are engaged in child labor on cocoa farms in Africa.

This is why it's so important to know how your chocolate is sourced. In Bibamba's case, whether they are growing, harvesting, fermenting, drying, or roasting the cacao, their employees are compensated fairly.
