How we speak to ourselves matters.

Today I woke up and my first thought was, “Why did I let myself eat so much pizza last night?”

My second thought was, “I had no business drinking all that wine.”

My third thought, “Oh no, how many desserts did I end up eating?”

It took me until about thought # 7 before I realized how much I was mentally abusing myself and forced myself to think of one thing I was grateful for about the night before and my choices from the evening… and I’ve been ACTIVELY working on this for years now.

I tell you his for a few reasons (and it’s not a coded cry for help)-
1. I’m trying to facilitate more honesty on social media platforms.
2. I know for a fact that I’m not the only one who talks to myself this way, either internally or out loud.
3. I know it’s a constant battle for me, someone actively working on it and also coaching others to actively work on it, so I know it’s sucks for you too.
4. Maybe you don’t notice these words sneaking into your thoughts and I was able to bring you that awareness so that you can start to change the inner dialog as well.

So pay attention to your inner thoughts and the little snarky comments you make to yourself today.

“Oh my gosh, I can’t believe I did that, I’m such an idiot.”

Are you though? I think you should say sorry to yourself, because chances are you made a simple mistake or made a choice based on the best information you had at the time. And there’s ZERO things idiotic about that.

Start being your best friend instead of your worst critic and take note of the changes you experience in your mood towards yourself and others.
