IT WAS 60 YEARS AGO,
JULY 6, 1957.
And then there were the Beatles...
Rock and Roll was barely two years old, 60 years ago. By all accounts, it was a typical Saturday in Liverpool, only 12 years removed from the devastation from WWII. Yet was was about to happen on this specific day would forever change to face of popular music, culture and so much more. John Lennon's new band, The Quarrymen were set to perform at the St. Peter's Church fete that afternoon. In the band were John (vocals, guitar), Eric Griffiths (guitar), Colin Hanton (drums), Rod Davies (banjo), Pete Shotton (washboard) and Len Garry (tea chest bass). Ivan Vaughan, a mutual friend of John and Paul McCartney invited Paul to join him that afternoon. After the set of more skiffle music than Rock and Roll, Ivan introduced them. The reverberations of that moment are still being felt, 60 years on.

Record producer Sir George Martin, known as the "fifth Beatle", has died, aged 90.
