What is Plant Health Care?
To further promote the professional practice of arboriculture, ISA partnered with Google Arts & Culture through the World Wide Wood project to educate the public about the benefits of trees and the work arborists do.
The World Wide Wood project is a digital exhibit that offers interactive elements, videos, 3D models, and more. This project encompasses over 100 partners in 36 countries, highlighting the complexity and importance of trees in our world.
One of the online exhibits created through the support of ISA’s Trees Are Good focuses on plant health care. Plant health care involves monitoring and implementing preventative treatments to keep trees healthy. Certified arborists can detect tree health concerns and apply treatments.

🌳 This bright little ball is called an oak apple gall. It forms when a tiny gall wasp — often from the genus Cynips — stings the tree. That sting causes a hormone dysfunction, and the tree responds by creating this round gall, which serves as a protective covering for the wasp’s eggs.
The neat part is they don’t harm the tree, just one of nature’s fascinating designs. 🍂
Happy Friday, everyone, take a look around nature is full of beauty! 🌳

📣 We’ve Spotted Them! 📣
Spotted Lanternfly Confirmed in Our Area (Columbus)
That’s right—our team just confirmed the presence of the Spotted Lanternfly (SLF) locally. These striking but destructive insects are an invasive threat to trees, vines, and crops—including maples, oaks, black walnuts, and even grapes.
🪰 What You Need to Know:
• What is it? A planthopper with gray wings covered in black spots and bright red hindwings.
• Why it matters: SLF feeds on sap, weakening trees and leaving behind sticky honeydew that promotes sooty mold.
• Trees at risk: Ailanthus (Tree of Heaven), Maples, Black Walnut, Birch, and others.
• How they spread: Adults hitch rides on vehicles, firewood, outdoor equipment—be cautious!
• When to act: Right now. August through September is peak adult activity.
👟 What You Can Do:
• Kill adults on sight (yes, really—stomp them).
• Report sightings to the Ohio Department of Agriculture. https://agri.ohio.gov/divisions/plant-health/invasive-pests/invasive-insects/slf
• Don’t move firewood or yard waste between areas.
• Contact us for tree health assessments or treatment options.
🧪 Our Plant Health Care team is monitoring and ready to help protect your trees.
📸 Here’s what we found locally — stay alert and help us spread awareness, not the bug!

🌳Controlled Tree Removal🌳
We recently removed 17 trees around this home to address their proximity to the structure and align with the owner’s long-term goals. While we love trees, sometimes they’re just in the wrong location—and that’s okay!
There’s no such thing as a bad tree, only a bad spot for one. Remember, we plant them too! 🌱
