I wavered back and forth between 'peace' and 'less' as my word for 2026.

In this season of my life, I truly want more of what I do want, and less of what I don't want and I am finally 'there' to make that happen for myself. But peace is what I am truly after.

After years of starting and growing my own businesses (about 15 to be exact), I am more keen on starting them for others and guiding their decisions and path than I am about re-creating the wheel for myself. I remain passionate about small business, kids and family and education, but I am ready to find my 'peace' within it all.

That, coupled with 11 years of having small children, homeschooling and navigating COVID, health "stuff" and ... 'ya know, just life, I am embracing the calm.

I am saying yes to rest more than I ever had and protecting my energy at all costs.

I used to be terrible about protecting my boundaries; calling in payroll while at the zoo with my family, responding to emails with a 3 day old infant next to me, thinking I had to (and actually did) say 'yes' to every exciting opportunity that presented itself to me.

But, there comes a time where you have to say "I did enough" I paid off my mortgage, have funds growing in investments and ... it's time for a cruise control year.

2026, you are the year of peace.

Peace with my choices, peace with my kids and family, and choosing me whenever I can.

More quiet, slow mornings, longer coffee chats, 8 hours of sleep, feeling ok saying 'no'...

✨ Three years ago, I sold my successful pediatric OT/ST clinic.

There were so many mixed emotions; sadness, excitement, relief, disbelief...

✨ I will always be a Speech-Language Pathologist by trade, but man does business consulting light me up.

It energizes me in new and expansive ways. ✨

✨ It takes my reach and desire to help others to another level.

✨ It is what I was meant to do.

Yes, I have a master's degree in a completely different profession (on top of some business school).

Yes, I gave every ounce of my being to getting that clinic up and running- and it quickly became one of the largest clinics in Central Ohio.

Yes, I do miss it some days.

✨ BUT I am proof that you can be many things, fulfill yourself and others in more ways than one, and follow your dreams no matter how windy that path becomes.

This is an old(ish) photo, taken within the months following the clinic sale. I was on a mission to savor more time with my darling boys, create a life I wanted of unusual asks, and open up my world to new things.

🤔 Has your business consultant actually run their own business?
.. and I'm not just talking about their coaching business.

This may be one of the most important questions to ask a business consultant.

🌱 Want to grow a team? Ask if they have that experience.

🌱 Want a physical location? Ask if they have that experience.

🌱 Run a nonprofit? Ask if they have experience.

Lived experiences and lessons count for a lot.

Don't just settle for some reports, market analysis and ideas from someone that "went to school for this."

It just simply isn't the same as living the life of an entrepreneur; the 6 am texts, the calling in of payroll from the zoo with your kids, the run back to the office because a toilet overflowed, the wearing and juggling of 7,000 hats amidst all the other aspects of life.

It for sure takes an entrepreneur to understand another entrepreneur.
