ICE is a public health issue btw

“I tried to stop.”

Those were the last words of Joan Sebastian Guerrero, a 26-year-old father killed by ICE this morning in Maine. 💔

And we need to be honest: none of this is happening in isolation.

Right here in Kern County, the largest ICE detention center in California opened in Cal City without proper permits. The federal government just bought it for $732 million. A fourth detention facility quietly opened in McFarland this spring. Studies show more detention beds mean more arrests in the surrounding community. That’s us.

At the same time, corporations are pushing massive data centers at Elk Hills and Inyokern that would drain our water and energy, while rent climbs, groceries climb, and wages don’t. And surveillance of our communities keeps expanding.

Cages, cameras, and rising costs. They profit, we pay. It’s the same system.

But here’s what they don’t want you to know: fear is their strategy, and community is ours. You have rights. You have people. And there is a movement in the Central Valley that is not backing down.

Our water belongs to our farmworkers and our families. Our land belongs to our communities.

And what gets built in Kern County should be decided by the people who live here, not Silicon Valley.
