This is my favorite coffee cup. When I was 22, I bought it in Florence, Italy for around 12€ which was probably half of my budget for the whole week. I thought it was lovely and impulsively bought it from an aged Italian man selling his handmade goods on the corner of a picturesque street.

Then, I carried it across maybe 6 or 9 or 11 countries in a worn thrift shop backpack for three months. It was nestled between dirty clothes, a poncho, baguettes, and lots of postcards and train tickets. It survived a night sleeping on the beach in Barcelona, was left under a tree in a German Biergarten for two days, was almost stolen by an angsty thief in Amsterdam, and held strong during a sprint (and fall) while running to a flight home to Texas.

Then, it was forgotten for years while it sat in my old bag in a closet. I was too busy pushing a career and education to stop and remember my little mug and its adventure.

Insert years and cross country moves. Many boxes. An abandoned career for a happier one. A husband and a family and life.

Then, one day, there it was - sitting in my cupboard with the “nice things we never use and are saving.” I took it and walked directly to my old Mr. Coffee pot and poured some really bad, but caffeinated coffee into it. I’ve used it everyday since then (though now it has fabulous coffee in it). It reminds me to use the nice things, wear the dress, kiss the man, hug the babies, book the trip, love big, take the risks, and dream the dreams. I hope you do the same!
