Battle of the Books!! 📚🥊

MTZ Intermediate’s “Battle of the Books” is an incredible program that sparks a love of reading while adding a little friendly competition!

Led by the amazing Mr. and Mrs. Gherardini, 4th- and 5th-grade students form teams of five at the start of the school year. Throughout the year, these teams read 20 Bluestem books, preparing for the big battles that take place each April.

Now in its 5th year, the program has grown tremendously—from 21 teams and about 100 students to 59 teams and nearly 300 students this year!

During the battles, teams answer comprehension questions from the Bluestem books they’ve read, showing off their knowledge and teamwork. It’s an exciting event for the whole community—last year around 200 people came out to watch and cheer on these young readers!

We love seeing this program continue to grow and inspire students. Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. G, for sharing your passion for books and helping our students thrive!
