On July 11, DeKalb County Government hosted its first Government Academy, a free educational program designed to provide insight into how county government operates and how residents can become more engaged community leaders.

Participants heard from county leaders and learned about the services and departments that support the community, including Planning & Sustainability, Code Compliance, Solid Waste Management, Human Services, Community Development, DeKalb 311, Public Safety and Animal Services.

The academy equips residents, homeowners association leaders, community advocates and business owners with the knowledge and resources to better understand county services and make a greater impact.

🌳🚒 High above the ground, first responders trained for one of the region's most challenging rescue scenarios.

DCTV joined firefighters from DeKalb County, Cobb County, Gwinnett County and the City of Atlanta as they participated in specialized aerial tree rescue training at Stone Mountain Park. Over three days, crews practiced the skills needed to safely rescue injured or stranded tree climbers, including scene assessment, hazard identification, climbing techniques and victim-lowering procedures.

With metro Atlanta's dense tree canopy and thousands of tree care professionals working throughout the region, this specialized training helps ensure firefighters are ready to respond when every second counts.
