Since next week is BGMC, we celebrated Pentecost Sunday this Sunday.
Pentecost Sunday was one of the seven feasts God started in the Old Testament. And it was on the day of Pentecost (50 days after Passover), that God poured out his Spirit upon his church. He anointed his church with the power and prescense of the Holy Spirit just like he did to his tabernacle and his temple in the Old Testament.
The Holy Spirit is a gift given to this world to continue the work of Jesus. God has always desired for his Spirit to be WITH us, IN us and UPON us. He is WITH us to convict us of our sin and draw us to the open arms of Jesus. He is IN us to bring about the salvation expereince known as being born-again and to live inside of us. And he is UPON us to baptize us into the power of God to be his witnesses.
This power he gives us helps us to live right and obey God's word. It helps us to live supernaturally as there is a supernatural world alongside our natural world. And it helps us to live a mission by bringing the message of Jesus in a more effective and powerful way. This baptism is for ALL believers and not for just a specail few.
The evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is internal as God's presence fills you to overflowing from the inside out. It is also physical evidence as those who are baptized show a verbal response and will speak in other tongues as the Spirit enables them.
Some people may find the baptism of the Holy Spirit a strange or weird thing. It did to the people who first witnessed the disciples being baptized. Jesus spit in dirt to form mud and placed it on a man's eyes in order to heal him of blindness. Why did he do that? That was weird! God's ways are not our ways and many times we may fell uncomfortable, strange or weird when obeying God. As long as the bible shows this is how God works, it does not really matter how we feel about it. We need to follow it. Jesus is the baptizer and he wants to baptize you in the Holy Spirit.
