Henry N McWhorter Family: This is Uncle Alton & Aunt Lizzie McWhorter’s home. Right before land & house sold after his death. I wanted a picture to remember all the good times , growing up, that I spent here. Brenda, their youngest daughter , was a year younger than me. We played together all the time. Built play houses, made mud pies, decorated with Polk salad berries. Some of my most happy times. Miss them and my good times , are just memories 😥

Madge Hill McWhorter wife of William Hugh McWhorter. She was my great aunt by marriage. I loved her, she was always so good to me. She worked for years at Clark Freeman Department Store in Moulton. We always shopped there when I was growing up.
She raised 4 sons and one daughter. All turned out to be very upstanding Christians and 3 sons were preachers , one was an elder in the Church and the daughter married a preacher.
She and Uncle Willie were married 60 plus years. I never knew my grandmother , she died in 1927. My grandfather died when I was 12 years old. I looked to Uncle Willie and Aunt Madge as substitute grandparents.
Great memories.

This is an article from one of the newspapers about Hugh McWhorter seeking the Superintendent for Lawrence County Schools. He did win.
Hugh was the oldest of Uncle Willie and Aunt Madge’s children. Hugh was a good man and always tried to do the right thing for everyone. A Christian man and did a great job teaching school years prior.
