Our moon sign represents our inner emotional world, but it often displays our connection to our mother/maternal figure. Like each placement, it can have a shadow side.

This is incredibly helpful for understanding your childhood, how to feel happy and safe as an adult, your dynamics with your own mother, or even for better understanding your own children, friends, partners, etc.

For example: my moon is in Capricorn. I FEEL safe and comfortable when I am stable and secure. From a young age, I was often considered "mature" for my age, or was a responsible child. My connection with my mother was that she worked hard. She HAD to work hard when I was a child, but even now, she tends to lean into the threshold of being a workaholic. The shadow side of my moon is struggling with feeling adequate unless I am productive. In my mind, my achievements often determine my worth. It's something I've had to work through for many years now.

On the other hand, my brother (who was raised by the same mother), has a Leo moon. He saw our mother as confident. They share a love of nice things: flashy clothing, nice cars, etc. He often was very dramatic, loud, bold, and had a natural childlike, playful Leo energy. In the comfort of our home, he was very confident. Rather than seeking validation or praise externally, Leo Moons should learn to feel happy and confident on their own.

One of the best ways to start interpreting your chart is getting a feel for the elements and modalities in your chart! What is your "Big 3" (Sun, Moon and Rising sign), and do you relate to that energy?

How many placements do you have in each of the elements? Are you mostly Fixed, Cardinal, or Mutable energy?
