We sure miss you, Marty 🖤

Today we take time to Remember Chief Marty Smith of Montgomery County Rural Fire District #1 Dearing Station.

On January 15th, 2023, Chief Smith responded to an auto accident. While returning to the station in a fire department vehicle, he told the firefighter that he was riding with, I must have pulled a muscle my arm hurts. Chief Smith didn't seek medical attention. Not realizing his body was presenting signs of a heart attack, he went home. He was found dead in his home the next morning.

Chief Smith You are not forgotten, and we thank you for your many years of dedicated service.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women of our armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their courage, selflessness, and dedication have secured the freedoms we cherish every day.

As first responders, we at Dearing Fire Department understand the call to serve—and we hold deep respect for those who gave everything to protect this country. Their legacy inspires us to serve our community with the same unwavering commitment.

On this Memorial Day, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect, remember, and honor our fallen heroes. May we never forget their sacrifice.

Chief Martin K. Smith was one of the Kansas firefighters remembered yesterday for sacrificing his life in the line of duty. May we always remember those who have lost their lives and pray for those who continue to risk their lives to save others ❤️🚒
