Thank you to and of for finding a great home for this painting. I’m honored to have it become part of an important Ohio collection, and it also marks my first sale from my recent series in which I translate the visual language of my textile works into painting. Although I have worked primarily in textiles for nearly 20 years, I have begun revisiting painting over the past few years. Textiles, in the way I use them, have certain limitations, and as a self-professed colorist, I have been seeking more flexibility in my palettes.
This painting combines house paint and a drop cloth as the structure of the painting. I am interested in using everyday, accessible materials rather than something traditionally “precious” like oil paint and linen or fine canvas, as I aim to emphasize the democratic potential of materials and challenge hierarchies within artmaking. This approach allows the work to retain the tactile sensibility and improvisational energy of my textile practice while expanding into a new visual and conceptual space.
