At Discover Classical, we're honored to recognize the special individuals, memories, and milestones that continue to inspire and connect our listeners throughout the year.

Here are the first of many Honorary Days for June.

1656 Marin Marais, French composer, was born in Paris, France (d. 1728)

Today at 2:00 on Theme and Variations, the theme is the partita through the centuries. The music is by Johann Albrechtsberger, Grażyna Bacewicz, J. S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Franz Krommer, W. A. Mozart (well. maybe), Arvo Pärt and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

This afternoon, we'll hear a cantata performed in Leipzig on Trinity Sunday on June 4th, 1724, but was originally written for the dedication of a new organ in the village of Störmthal the previous fall. Aaron Mood presents Bach Cantatas, Sundays at 12:03pm, with support from Grace Lutheran Church West Carrollton.
