This can be true. I tell all my students to tell "helpers" they're taking lessons and working on specific advice. I feel like people at the range mean well but usually end up frustrating newer golfers.
Back off! Men offering women unsolicited swing advice needs to stop Golf is hard, but certain men have made the game even more difficult for women when they present their all-knowing advice on the practice range.
