Analysis finds heat inequities in Southwest
Low-income communities in the southwestern US are exposed to higher temperatures than wealthier ones, according to a recent analysis that reviewed 20 urban areas in the region. The impact of heat falls disproportionately on "those who have the least amount of resources to mitigate it," said Jake Dialesandro, a doctoral student in geography at the University of California, Davis, who led the study. In addition, the study found that predominantly Latino communities tend to experience more heat than predominantly white communities.
