For the last 10 years since we opened the Social Mind Center, my perspective on autism has expanded beyond my family and our experience with living with autism. I have had the privilege of sharing the climb of autism with hundreds of families that have been impacted by autism. The journey of learning to live with autism and helping families understand their children. There is no greater truth than

Dr. Sandra and I have bittersweet news for you all!. We are both retiring this August. It has been 15 years of serving the autism community. Over Dr. Sandra's 40 years of practice, she has impacted the lives of thousands of autistics by providing access to communication interventions, tools, and devices. I had the privilege of being with her for two decades, joining her in making an impact on families.

"Autistics should never have to 'earn' the right to communication supports."

The Center will transition to primarily providing individual psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, family counseling, and coaching. Samantha Salver will continue to provide these services. Dr. Solomon will provide diagnostic testing, including psychoeducational, autism, behavioral, and gifted evaluations.

We will be having social groups through July 23rd and Brick Club through July 29th, depending on attendance. Our offices will be open through July 30th. We will have a new phone number for you to reach us, and it will be listed on our Google page. Our new number is 954-247-8586.

Our website will remain active. We will continue to provide tools, resources, consulting, and training through our website and social media platforms.

Have you ever looked at a girl and thought, “She can’t be autistic because she’s social, chatty, or has friends”?

For many years, autism research and diagnostic criteria were based largely on boys. As a result, countless autistic girls were overlooked, misunderstood, or labelled as shy, anxious, dramatic, sensitive, or difficult.

Many autistic girls spend years masking their differences, copying peers, hiding their struggles, and working incredibly hard to fit in. On the surface they may appear to be coping, but underneath they can be experiencing exhaustion, anxiety, sensory overwhelm, and a constant feeling of not quite belonging.

The myths surrounding autistic girls don’t just create misunderstanding—they can delay support, damage self-esteem, and leave girls wondering why life feels harder than it seems for everyone else.

This visual explores some of the most common myths and the facts we now understand about autistic girls.

What myth have you heard most often?

A Bitesize Guide to the Autistic Girl is now available - see visual for details.

Today starts World Autism Acceptance Month. Let's stop the movement to fix and lead with support, equipping, and empowerment for our autistic community. Support in helping them adapt by prioritizing their needs in a world not designed with them in mind. Let's transition from an obsession with quashing behaviors to promoting skill-building. Skills for communication and agency. Behavior points us to the unmet need. AA
