THE PRICE OF PRAYERLESSNESS - "Devote yourselves to prayer, be watchful and thankful." (Colossians 4:2 NIV)

Have you ever noticed what occurs if we allow our prayer life to fall by the wayside? When we fail to make prayer a priority in our life, essentially forfeiting our time alone with the Father, we will begin to feel an emptiness in our heart, accompanied by a sense of uneasiness. In contrast, when our prayer life is active, the weight of burdens will be lifted from our shoulders by the mighty hand of God.

We should place a high priority on our fellowship and communication with the Father. After all, we must be in contact with God in order to hear from Him. How else can we understand and follow His will?

PRAISE: IMPORTANT BUT NOT ALWAYS EASY = "Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and ge glad because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you." (Matthew 5:10-12 NIV)

God's commands sometimes defy human logic. In today's passage, for example, Jesus said we are t rejoice in persecution. That does not make sense until we realize the effect of praise: It keeps us focused on Him and the good things He can bring out of hardship.

If we believe God is in control and keeps His promises, then we must trust in the principle of Romans 5:3-5. This passage assures us that our hardships have a purpose. Specifically, they develop our endurance, strengthen our character, and solidify our hope. We are able to rejoice because we are maturing believers whom God can use for His purposes.
