WCD Project (2015) explores the complexities of American identity through a mural and a painted 1975 Datsun 280Z, merging imagery from Washington Crossing the Delaware with dazzle camouflage. Through this layered visual language, Moreno reflects on history, war, and perception—examining how identity is shaped by overlapping narratives of nationhood, migration, and conflict, and how painting can extend beyond the canvas into lived space and everyday experience.

A new exhibition is coming to Dallas Contemporary next week-
where history, myth, and imagination collide.
Francisco Moreno: Historia Sintética
Curated by Thomas Feulmer (Thomas Feulmer)
17 April – 30 August 2026
Francisco Moreno (Francisco Moreno Taboada) (b. 1986, Mexico City) is a Mexican-American artist
whose work reimagines history, myth, and identity through a bold visual language that merges
Old Master traditions with contemporary and fantastical influences. Raised between Mexico and
the United States, growing up in Arlington, Texas from the age of six, Moreno explores cultural
hybridity through layered compositions that draw on art history, religious iconography, and
Mexican symbolism, colliding them with surreal and invented narratives to question power,
heritage, and storytelling.
For Dallas Contemporary, Moreno will present major bodies of work, including The Chapel, an
immersive painted installation inspired by a Spanish Byzantine chapel from the Dallas Museum
of Art’s collection, alongside Mural Cycle, a new series of mural-scale paintings begun in 2024
and completed for this exhibition.
