Books for young children should face outwards (the way I have them in my 3 year old daughter’s room) so they can make their selection based on what they see.

Books for children who have mastered reading can face with their spines outwards because they now can pick books based on the title and author.

This is a SMALL but mighty environment modification that helps children have more autonomy.

The room on the left helps children grow into the room on the right. Both my children love reading. ✔️✔️

Here is a tween boy room made over (Spring Break).

We organized and purged - we got new bedding, a table and chair that fit his growing body- much needed bookshelves - some nice texture wallpaper- organized his toy shelf - decluttered his LEGO display shelf- put in more storage for books and materials needed frequently- and organized his closet to accommodate additional toys and display space for Legos in his closet. We also found a neat way to display medals and trophies- and we even gave him functional space under the bed with additional materials.

We worked together AS A TEAM to create a room that is appropriate for his age and interests.

Until next year!
For children over 10 the purging should be yearly - and the redecorating should happen as they grow.
