The Mayfair Building was constructed in 1929 as an opera house with a large performance stage on the west side of the building complete with sandbags, ropes, and curtains to accommodate shows of all kinds. In 1938, the stage and floor, which was initially sloped, were changed to accommodate the very first Rose Ball.
