Texas is one of 28 states to offer this to foster children and families! The student must enroll in a state supported college or university before their 25th birthday. It’s available for students who want to enroll in higher education or who want to take dual-credit courses at their high school.

To see qualifications you can visit the state’s website or reach out to us with questions!

According to a Texas Tribune article, this opportunity isn’t utilized very often. Possibly because families aren’t aware of it or a foster youth who ages out of the system is left without support to figure out the details of college: where to live, how to buy books, etc. even though tuition is paid for.

All the more reason to be by involved in and learn more about the foster care system to be an advocate + a support!

“We have four kids and one already preparing for college. It was so helpful to have information about colleges all in one place. We felt very encouraged knowing the broad range of financial options for quality schools. Seeing the cost information explained and broken down gave us a lot of clarity, made the process less overwhelming and gave us a path toward making some big decisions. This was time well spent!”
