Oscar Micheaux(1884-1951)
The first African American to produce a feature length-film, wrote an article in May 1919 called "The Negro and the Photoplay," where he noted, "Before we expect to see ourselves featured on the silver screen as we live, hope, act, and think today, men and women must write original stories of Negro life." He went on to say that "money must be risked in Negro corporations for this purpose."- An excerpt from "Vintage Black Glamour"
