Bertrain Bailey

The practice of leaving flowers at graves started thousands of years ago when the ancient Greeks would honor their fallen warriors.

5 years later on this day, I’m still leaving flowers on behalf of Juandalyn Bailey, Bertricia, Bertrand Jr., Bertshalyn, Berjuanette, Bertholomew, Bertabitha, Bertrick, and Berthaddeus for this warrior who has gone to be with the Lord.

Every time I come out to his gravesite I’ll cry so hard because I miss him so much.

To hear him laugh, get a bear hug, or to hear him tell me “I love you,” there is nothing I would do.
As a grown man with a family of my own, it made me strive to do and be better to hear him say, “I’m proud of you.” No one could say it like him, it just didn’t mean the same.

Mom, I got flowers with yellow because that’s your favorite color and a red one because of Valentine’s Day.

Let’s Pray

Today’s Prayer of Gratitude.

Father as we think about the families around our country that have been displaced by tornadoes and families in Ukraine that have been displaced by bombs, we pray that every hurt, pain and bad memories be washed away with Your blood. Comfort those who lost loved ones, cleanse them from resentment and bitterness. Help us to love one another just the way You love us by meeting the needs of people who cross our path. We pray this trusting and believing in Your Holy Name.

Amen. Lord, thank you for our precious families.

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." (Isaiah 41:10)

Father, give us the strength to stick it out over the long haul—not the grim strength of gritting our teeth but the strength You give for Your glory. The strength that endures the unendurable and spills over into joy, make us strong enough to take part in everything bright and beautiful that You have for us. Father, give us strength in our weakness today.
