In 2025 mandatory vehicle inspections for non-commercial vehicles will be a thing of the past. Texas was one of only 15 states that required these inspections for non-commercial vehicles. However, drivers will still pay the $7.50 inspection fee, now rebranded as the “Inspection Program replacement Fee” when you register your vehicle annually.

Commercial vehicles will still require inspections and non-commercial vehicle in those larger metropolitan areas (Brazoria, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, El Paso, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Johnson, Kaufman, Montgomery, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis, and Williamson Counties) will be required to have annual emissions testing.
