Dallas Zoo
We are the largest zoological park in Texas, home to over 2,000 animals representing 406 species. The Dallas Zoo is 106 acres located south of downtown Dallas, Texas, in Marsalis Park. We welcome guests from near and far to visit and experience the history and excitement that lives throughout the zoo grounds.
Roaring into her twenties! π
π
Melati is celebrating her 20th birthday this week, making the Dallas Zoo home to both the oldest and the youngest Sumatran tigers in the Sumatran Tiger Species Survival Plan (SSP). The youngest are our tiger cubs, born earlier this year.
At 20 years old, Melati is well beyond the typical life expectancy for a Sumatran tiger. She's been a beloved part of the Dallas Zoo family since 2009, and these days her care is tailored to help her stay comfortable as she ages.
You'll see Melati on habitat less often than the other tigers. While they rotate through the habitat regularly, Melati prefers cooler days when she can head outside and relax. She also enjoys large, fluffy wood wool beds year-round and has been trained to voluntarily participate in radiographs, allowing her care team to monitor her health with minimal stress.
20 years is an incredible milestone for a Sumatran tiger, and we're honored to celebrate this remarkable cat and the dedicated team that helps her thrive every day.

Tiger cub update: still tiny, still cute π―
The cubs are getting more adventurous by the day, and their personalities are really starting to shine. Rina is bold, curious, and first in line for every new experience, while Serasi is more cautious, taking his time and building confidence at his own pace. Mom Suki is never far away, staying close as the cubs roam and offering calm reassurance with soft chuffsβ¦ which she happily gets right back from both little ones! π§‘
