Chidiebere Ibe, 1996—present
Chidiebere Ibe, 25, is a Nigerian first-year medical student and self-taught medical illustrator. His illustration of a black fetus in the womb went viral in 2021 after noticing a lack of diverse representation in medical textbooks. “I believe everybody deserves to be seen,” he said. “In the U.S. there are a lot of health care disparities. So this is a call to everybody that everybody should matter, and there should be health equality for everybody.” Ibe continues to create medical illustrations of black people and some of his work will soon be published in a clinical handbook.
