Building/Residential Inspector

Job Description:

The primary responsibility of this position is unit inspections. for (HVCP) Housing Choice Voucher Program

Conducting exterior inspections of residential properties; Preparing inspection reports, including documenting the findings of an inspection, communicating these findings to staff, property owners and contractors verbally and in writing. Communicating the results of an inspection report to property owners, contractors and staff; Investigating complaints of alleged ordinance violations; Tracking and monitoring ordinance violations to ensure timely and efficient remedy and/or repair of violations; Re-inspects property after reconditioning, on annual inspection, before and after transfers, and when a physical violation is reported.

The Ideal Candidate will have knowledge of:

Building-related codes and ordinances enforced by the City, including the uniform building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical codes.
General zoning and land use laws.
General grading practices.
Principles of structural design and engineering mathematics.
Major types of building construction, material and methods.
Pertinent safety standards and methods of building construction for commercial and residential buildings.
Ability to:

Interpret and apply pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.
Determine if construction systems conform to City Code requirements.
Enforce necessary regulations with firmness and tact.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Requires:

1+ years of work experience
Associates Degree
MUST have TX driver license and a clean driving record
