- Several months ago, a client called me after touring a home and said: “Kevin… you have got to see this fireplace.”

Now, as a REALTOR®, I’ve seen some things.

I’ve seen mirrored walls.
I’ve seen carpet in bathrooms.
I’ve seen kitchens remodeled by people who were clearly unsupervised.

But I had never seen something like this.

So I pulled up the listing.

And there it was.

A bright yellow fireplace.

Not soft yellow.
Not cheerful yellow.
Not “a tasteful pop of color” yellow.

This thing looked like it had been painted with a school bus. Like a highlighter marker had exploded in the living room.

My client and I laughed about it for days.

Then one afternoon I thought:

Maybe we’re looking at this all wrong.

Maybe the fireplace isn’t meant for adults.

Maybe it’s meant for… a very specific demographic.

So I made a few design adjustments.

And just like that, everything clicked.

The fireplace wasn’t ugly.

The room was simply missing four Teletubbies.

Now the color palette is cohesive.
The design intent is clear.
And somewhere, a preschool television producer is preparing a full-price offer.

I’ve staged hundreds of homes in my career.

This may be my finest work.

- This meatloaf has ended relationships.

I don’t mean to brag, but my meatloaf brings all the boys to the yard.

Grown men have abandoned family recipes after one bite of this thing. I’ve seen people stare out windows quietly reevaluating their childhoods. Somebody’s uncle once took a second helping and whispered, “My mother lied to me.”

At this point, I’m fairly certain the inventor of meatloaf rose from the grave, floated into my kitchen one evening, pointed at the pan, and said, “Yes. This is what I meant.”

Giorgio and Otto are already circling the kitchen like tiny meatloaf security consultants, and honestly there are few things in life better than being home with them on a Sunday afternoon with something ridiculous cooking in the oven.

Crispy edges. Rich glaze. Honey child, this is West Texas luxury.

The photo is from one I made in March 2024, you betcha more photos and the recipe are on the way.
