Did you know there is a connection between the classic holiday film "It's a Wonderful Life" and the Battle of Gettysburg?

Actor Jimmy Stewart, who plays George Bailey in the film, was the grandson of Col. Samuel McCartney Jackson, of the 11th Pennsylvania Reserves. Col. Jackson led his regiment into action at the foot of Little Round Top during the early evening of July 2nd, 1863, helping to halt the final Confederate drive toward the hill.

Col. Jackson survived the war, and in 1875 welcomed a daughter into the world, Elizabeth R. Jackson. Elizabeth would go on to be the mother of Academy Award winning actor James Stewart.
