I watched the season finale of the show "Alone" recently with my family. There's something that calls to me as I watch these survivalists make it in the wilderness on their own, with only the few tools they bring and no further support or companionship. The ones that stay the longest seem to feel a deep connection to the land and growing awareness of themselves and the type of life they really want.
But as much as these folks love nature, they don't want to be alone forever. Some leave the show, not because of hunger or injury, but because they long so much for their loved ones.
I think there's also a deep sense of loneliness that haunts many of us non-survivalists, even when we're surrounded by co-workers, church-goers, or even family. We are surrounded, but we are not always known. We may feel more fear and anxiety around close relationships than we feel love and safe friendship.
And we may feel a conviction (or be challenged by someone else) to change that - to pursue closer relationships. But it's one thing to be told something; it's much harder to do it.
How do we learn the art of walking together? How do we fight off loneliness?
It can be hard to organically do this? Sometimes we need a place to practice. That's one of the goals of process group - a name that only scratches at what we're really doing together. We're also learning how to "be" in relationship: how to listen, how to share, how to ask for what we need. We watch others learning these things. We imperfectly give it a shot. We feel accepted no matter how well we do at it.
If that sounds like something you could use in this season of life, I invite you to connect with us using the link below. You won't regret it.
