Christ didn’t live His life on Earth trying to protect Himself from hardship. In fact, because His very nature is love, He remained vulnerable to the deepest hurts throughout His life. He was betrayed, ridiculed, abandoned, and subjected to torture to the point of death. Avoiding pain was not His goal and it certainly was not His purpose. We see the heart of His purpose as he wept in Gethsemane, namely, to submit to His Father’s will.
