May is Mental Health Awareness month. According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), nearly one in five U.S adults live with a mental illness (52.9 million in 2020). Mental illnesses include many different conditions that vary in degree of severity, ranging from mild to moderate to severe. TEAM MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Elena Starostina

With over 22 years of experience in Biology research and Biotechnology, Elena serves as the General Laboratory Supervisor at GeneIQ. She provides daily supervision of laboratory staff, oversees laboratory procedures and coordinates the workflow of routine laboratory tasks.

Elena previously played a pivotal role in developing diagnostic assays for detection of infectious diseases such as Zika, Flu A/B and HIV in human samples. Additionally, she has been responsible for developing and optimizing innovative methodologies for the automated production of DNA constructs.
