The flat reading in ‌retail sales last month followed an unrevised 0.6% increase in November, the Commerce Department's Census ‌Bureau on Tuesday. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast retail sales, which are mostly goods and are not adjusted for inflation, would rise by 0.4%.

The term “bubble” refers to a substantial and sustained mispricing of an asset. Bubbles are nothing new, they are a recurring phenomenon in property markets, for example, where historical data can reveal patterns of excess.

The UBS Global Real Estate Bubble Index gauges the risk of a property bubble on the basis of these patterns. However, the index cannot predict when a correction will set in or what this correction will look like: a deflation or a pop.
