I always smile when people talk about discipline.

You don’t truly understand discipline until you’ve spent hours shining boots until they looked like glass, only to destroy them in five minutes on a parade field. Or spent all evening preparing your uniform, knowing tomorrow’s motor pool would ruin it before breakfast.

Veterans learned discipline when nobody was watching. We learned standards, attention to detail, accountability, and repetition long before it was trendy to talk about “grind” and “hustle.”

So when a veteran talks about discipline, understand something:

We’re not talking about motivation.
We’re talking about a way of life.

Less than 1% of Americans serve.

We are not the same.
