When a local Emergency Management agency reached out looking for a portable communications solution to fill a gap when handheld radio coverage during extended incidents like search and rescue missions, hazmat responses, and other large-scale operations just didn’t work well, we were excited to help.

Our team built a custom go-box featuring a telescopic mast paired with a Sinclair tri-band antenna covering VHF, UHF, and 700/800 MHz. Inside the case, we installed a VHF/UHF/700-800 MHz diplexer, allowing everything to feed through a single coax connection with a convenient external bulkhead connector. The result is a clean, simple setup that can be deployed quickly when reliable communications matter most. The gap will be for a third radio and a later date but it is ready to be added at any point.

We’ll be programming the radios today and, if everything stays on schedule, look forward to delivering the completed system tomorrow.

We sincerely appreciate the trust our local public safety partners place in Betner Communications.

It’s a privilege to support the agencies that serve our communities, and we’re grateful for every opportunity to help keep them connected when it matters most.

Yesterday evening we spent several hours going through the radios in fire apparatus from two different stations. We started around 5:30 PM and wrapped up around 9:30 PM, making sure everything was performing the way it should.

Overall, the systems were in good shape, but we did find a few minor issues. Most were related to poorly installed crimp connectors, and one truck had high SWR caused by a faulty NMO mount. After making those repairs, those mobile radios was tested again and is now operating exactly as it should.

While we were there, we also updated the firmware on several portable radios and tracked down a programming issue that had been causing problems.

This is just another example of the proactive support we strive to provide even when the other guys are closed. We don’t just install equipment, we make sure our customers’ communications are dependable when they need them most.

We also put the new RigExpert Match Antenna Analyzer to work throughout the evening, and I have to say, that little analyzer is an impressive piece of equipment. It made testing quick and accurate, and I have a feeling we’ll be adding a few more of them to our toolbox in the future.
