The Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) is the national standard, developed by the IAFF and IAFC, for measuring whether a candidate can handle the physical demands of the job. It's a timed course of eight events that mirror real tasks you'd perform on the fireground:
• Stair Climb
• Hose Drag
• Equipment Carry
• Ladder Raise & Extension
• Forcible Entry
• Search
• Rescue
• Ceiling Breach & Pull

You'll complete the course wearing a 50-lb weighted vest (simulating firefighter gear), with an extra 25 lbs added for the stair climb, all within 10 minutes and 20 seconds. It's scored simply: Pass or Fail.

Firefighter / EMT-Basic
Firefighter / Paramedic
Paramedic — no fire certification? We'll train you as a firefighter.

What we offer: a 24/48 schedule with built-in overtime (no Kelly Days), base salary of $81,218.28 for firefighter-paramedics, medical/dental/vision/life insurance with an HSA, the 1977 Fund pension, a 457 match, paid time off, specialty teams (dive, tech rescue, MIH, tactical medics) and a newly built training facility. Already in the '77 Fund? Your pension service comes with you.
