Happy Siding Check Day! π π¨
(Yes itβs a real thing, and itβs today, June 18th)
Your siding is your home's first line of defense against the elements. The weather this spring has put our homes to the test, so taking a few minutes to do a quick perimeter check can protect your investment and prevent costly repairs in the future:
πΆββοΈ Walk the Perimeter: Take a walk around your home. Look closely for any warped boards, peeling paint, cracks or chips on vinyl siding.
πͺ Check the High Risk Spots: Pay extra attention to the siding near gutters, windows, and downspouts. These are the most common zones for hidden moisture damage.
π Look for Critters: Keep an eye out for small holes or gaps. Compromised siding is an open invitation for pests that you definitely don't want moving in!
If you catch any small cracks, chips, or gaps early, a little waterproof caulk can save you thousands later. For anything bigger, itβs worth calling in a pro!
Tell us in the comments, what kind of siding does your home have? Vinyl, brick, wood, or stucco? π
βYouβre under contract!β π
Those three words are what every home buyer loves to hear.
Donβt let the excitement cause you to make a major mistake, though! We've had this conversation with numerous buyers lately, so we wanted to share the same advice with you.
A common misconception is that your credit is reviewed at the time of application only. The truth is, your credit, income, and employment will all be reviewed one last time right before closing.
To make sure you can move forward with the purchase of your home, make sure you hold off on any of the following until the keys are officially in your hands:
β Financing new furniture or appliances
β Buying or leasing a car
β Opening new credit cards (even for the store discount!)
β Changing jobs or switching industries
β Making large cash deposits without a clear paper trail
β Co-signing a loan for anyone else
One tiny, well-intentioned financial move can create massive delays or even cost you the house at the finish line. Before applying for any kind of credit, making any financial changes, or job changes, always talk to your lender first! π
