Walking a Hutong is like stepping into the past. So much of Beijing is modernized that when you find treasures like these, you pause and soak it all in. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ ALTERNATE CAPTION: Chinese proverb says, “if you stare you become free-game for photographs.” That’s right, right?

Walking through Beijing, we feel more like the attraction than the tourist.

Straight out of the airport, we hit the streets of Ha Noi. Maybe a little carsick. The traffic movement is on a whole ‘nother level. While I didn’t understand the rhythm and flow, they did. Pros, I tell you.

Never in my life would I have imagined that I’d live in the desert. Or that I would love it as dearly as I do. Growing up on the coast (lush, green and uncomfortably humid) the desert was an alien planet. A planet I now adore. Give me all the dry air and cacti and my desert friends. The Lord knows what he’s doing and I thank him for calling me to the desert (the physical one and the spiritual one) as often as I remember it. I’m also thankful that the desert is never meant to be forever. As I take what I learned from the desert and move ever closer to the green pastures and still waters my heart is content for the journey.

We drove winding through the trees, me unaware of what was beyond them. As we walked through the lot the earth opened up beside us. We stood at the precipice dwarfed by the grandness of it all. Unable to take in everything before us, we stood still in the cool, autumn breeze and just were. In that moment I was acutely aware of how much I underestimate The Creator and am very loved by him anyway. Wooing me with His unmatched creation.
