Let’s share all the facts-not just part of it WSB-TV. This will likely hurt sellers-likely more days on the market, buyers (most people) who need to finance their purchase and certain loan programs and ethical Realtors.
Commission has always been negotiable. Sellers are always made aware of this in the contractually obligated Exclusive Seller Listing agreement and how much- if any they are willing to pay and how/if it is split with a buyers agent.
There hasn’t been anything changed in the Settlement Agreement that mandates a change, dictates or limits, how much commission a brokerage or real estate agent charges a buyer or seller. AND completely allows the common practice of a seller paying the buyers broker. Or an agent receiving compensation from either party or both parties to a transaction. Just like today.
